Welcome Vanessa Blanchet – AdShark’s New Digital Creative!

These are my favorite blogs to write. Why? Because it means that our team is adding fun, new members! We met Vanessa Blanchet on a couple of occasions during her Senior Year at NDSU. First, when she took home an ADDY Award at the American Advertising Awards in February. Then again when she came to visit our office with NDSU Ad Club.

Needless to say: when a new position became available in our Creative Department, we knew just who to turn to! Vanessa is mid-way through her second week as a full-time member of the AdShark team, so we wanted to sit down with her and chat about her experience so far. Keep reading to learn more about our newest Digital Creative.

Welcome to AdShark! As you settle into your second week at our company, what has been the biggest surprise to you so far?

Honestly, just how flexible and chill everybody is. There is a lot of freedom within the job hours and that took me a few days to get used to, haha.

You have one sentence to describe yourself… GO!

A pretty straight up individual who says it how it is.

Cool! Now let’s see what you can tell us with a few more sentences. Tell us a little bit more about you.

I’m a pretty driven person, and work really hard to excel in whatever I’m doing. I usually come across pretty quiet, but if you know me long enough you’ll figure out that I’m a VERY sarcastic person and like to give people a hard time just to keep things spicy. The top three things that I’m very passionate about are respecting and prioritizing my faith and values, loving and caring for people well, and getting coffee right away in the morning.

Speaking of coffee… in your past work life, you were slinging coffees over at Twenty Below. Tell us: what is your absolute favorite caffeinated beverage to MAKE and your favorite to CONSUME?

Dang, that’s really hard. I think my favorite caffeinated beverage to make is a plain hot latte (with whole milk, specifically), just because I love making latte art. I would say my go-to caffeinated beverage to make for myself would be an iced vanilla latte, half as sweet with oat milk (yes, I do feel very basic for saying that).

As a Digital Creative, you’ll be helping our clients’ ads get seen by the masses. What is the most exciting part, in your opinion, of working in advertising?

Because there is already SO MUCH advertising that people take in each day, I’m really excited about the challenge of creating advertisements that break through all that noise and reach the target audience. I don’t think it’s a super easy task, but I really look forward to challenging myself in that space.

If you could travel to any place in the world for a week, where would you choose to go?

The Middle East, for sure.

Which national brand do you think KILLS it with their marketing or design?

I really think Apple’s brand does a solid job in their marketing/design. I’m really attracted to products that are simple, sleek, and high end, and I think they’ve nailed down those components. I also think they’ve really excelled at creating an aesthetic experience for their consumers, even down to the unpackaging of their products.

If you could go back in time and give 18-year-old Vanessa any piece of advice, what would it be?

You’re gonna make mistakes. Be okay with it, learn from it, and move on.

Your friend asks you to start a book club, but you convince them instead to do a movie club. What are the first 3 movies that you make everybody in the group watch?!

#1 – Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring. #2 – Lord of the Rings – The Two Towers. #3 – Lord of the Rings – The Return of the King (no, I don’t have an issue).

What would the title and subject matter of your podcast be if you were to start a podcast?

“Good Times.” Literally just talk about positive/funny things that are happening in the world. I feel like the news can be so depressing. I just want to remind people that good things are happening around them and bring some joy and lightheartedness to people’s lives.

And, of course, what’s your favorite type of shark?

While it’s a very hard choice, I have to go with the bluntnose sixgill shark.

If you’re a client of ours, odds are that you’ll have a chance to work with Vanessa soon! In the meantime, if you’d like to make her feel even more welcome: shoot her a “hello” message to vanessa@adsharkmarketing.com. Thanks for reading!
